There are many creative ways to support a nonprofit and make an impact individually. Take it from our friend Julie. For the past few months, Julie has taken it upon herself to support South County Outreach by donating food by purchasing fresh groceries through her grocery store’s weekly deals. Being a cheapskate by nature (her words, not ours!), she does her best to get the most bang for her buck each week. She saves money while being able to get the most food to donate— a win-win!

This can also be a great family activity! If you want to follow Julie’s approach, here are her steps:

  1. Begin with the weekly ad and search for the best deals.
  2. Make a short, quick list of the best deals, especially those that have an extra “$5 off 5” or “$5 off $10.”
  3. Use your store’s app to check for any additional digital coupons. In Julie’s case, she shops at Ralph’s.
  4. Shop! Stick to your list, but you can check out the clearance section too for any good deals.

Julie commits to spending $10-$15 per week and she’s able to provide many meals with her contribution! Follow Julie’s steps if you’re looking for a fun way to support South County Outreach!

“I think this would be a great activity for kids! It teaches them how to save on groceries, how to make a grocery list, and it gets them involved in donating to those in need!”
