This past quarter, our community faced increasing financial strain—and your support made all the difference for our Homeless Prevention (HP) program.

  • We provided 135% more in rental and utility assistance than the same time last year.
  • We served 241% more HP individuals, helping them stay housed.
  • 61% of our HP clients earned under 30% of Orange County’s Area Median Income—that’s less than $50,750/year for a family of four, in a county where the median income is $136,600.
  • 67% of HP households were led by single women, working hard to create stability for their families.

These aren’t just statistics—they’re stories of resilience, survival, and hope.

Michelle, a single mother of three, has lived in South Orange County for years and worked for the same employer for over 11 years. Though she’s always managed to make ends meet, a sudden and expensive car repair left her unable to pay rent. With no family or friends able to help, Michelle turned to South County Outreach—nervous and unsure, as she had never needed assistance before.

After receiving rental support, she sent us this heartfelt note:

“I am a single mother of three—ages 15, 10, and 15 months. I’ve worked full time at the same job for 11 years. I’ve always managed to stay afloat, but this time was different. I was truly struggling. I’m incredibly blessed to have received help from your wonderful organization. You prevented my family from becoming homeless. It’s so hard to stay above water when unexpected expenses hit. Please know that your help has deeply impacted our lives. From the bottom of our hearts, we are grateful and thankful.”
