Thank you for making Empty Bowls 2017 a success
Empty Bowls is an international event to fight hunger, hosted on a community level with support from local artisans, chefs, businesses, groups and individuals. Our fourth annual fundraising event took place on April 20, 2017.
Our guests gathered for a simple, savory meal of soup prepared by local chefs. Each guest received a handmade ceramic bowl as a reminder of those here in Orange County whose bowls are truly empty. Bowls are made by local artists and students. This year we set a record for most bowls donated!
Since 1989, South County Outreach has been providing hunger and homeless prevention services to individuals and families in crisis in South Orange County. We help those in need reach self-sufficiency with our food pantry, housing programs, utility and rental assistance, homeless prevention counseling and computer training.
For every 90 cents raised from Empty Bowls, guests help provide much-needed food, housing and other resources to the unemployed, under-employed, seniors, veterans, disabled and children in South Orange County. The funds raised from Empty Bowls are especially helpful in the summer, when food pantry donations are typically low, but demand is increased. More families use the food pantry in the summer months as their children are out of school and can no longer receive free breakfast and lunch. That’s over 100 extra meals a family must provide! For our clients, that might mean not being able to pay their rent or utility bills.
South County Outreach needs the support of local residents and the Orange County business community to provide almost 50,000 services each year. With your help, we change lives every day.
