So you want to become a nonprofit sponsor…

Here’s some things you should know (and some benefits that come along with sponsoring):

There are many ways to get involved with your favorite nonprofit. However, we know that sometimes you want to do more than volunteer for two hours during the week or click the “Donate” button in the top right of this page (although, we love that too). Like most nonprofits, our fundraisers are a large part of our annual programming. They’re an incredible way to engage our current donors and volunteers. They also stimulate interest from the community and introduce new people to our mission and values. And frankly, they’re a ton of fun, too.

However, throwing fundraisers (big or small), is inherently expensive.

Despite the good they bring to our client programs, the overhead costs can be high. A big way we bring those costs down is by encouraging individuals, families, or organizations to sponsor a portion of the event.

Sponsoring comes in many shapes and sizes.

It can be as simple as sponsoring a half-page ad in our event program, or as elaborate as sponsoring a 9 ft themed and decorated Christmas tree. Your Christmas tree is then on display for two weeks before being auctioned off at our holiday fundraiser, Festival of Trees.

There’s something for everyone, and there’s perks and benefits that come along with it, too.

  • It feels good. Yeah, this is probably an obvious perk, but that doesn’t make it any less true! Our sponsors are the reason we’re able to put on events that raise upwards of $120,000 every year. They help fund our housing and hunger programs.
  • It’s more tangible than donating. If you’re a regular donor, consider financially contributing to one of our events this year. You’ll be invited to the fundraiser you sponsor, and you’ll get to see first hand how your sponsorship is making an impact.
  • It’s a great way to promote your business. Fundraisers are a top notch networking environment. Get your business in front of the biggest movers and shakers in the community by showcasing what you do through an eye-catching program advertisement or by underwriting the cost of flowers, desserts, or beverages. All of our sponsors get their logos, names, and recognition on our event collateral.
  • You’ve got options.

If you’re new to South County Outreach, here’s a rundown on our two annual fundraisers:

In the spring, we host Empty Bowls – in fact, it’s coming up on April 9 this year. Get your tickets (or sponsorships) today! Empty Bowls is our hunger awareness fundraiser, and proceeds go towards funding our food pantry, food drives, and feeding hungry families throughout Orange County. Chefs and restaurants provide hearty and homemade soups and attendees receive handmade ceramic bowls (made from local high school students and professional ceramics artists) as a reminder of those whose bowls are truly empty. This fundraiser is held in a cozy country club with a crackling fireplace, brick walls, and boasts a silent auction.

In the winter, we host Festival of Trees. This fundraiser, in comparison, is festive, ornate, and lively. It raises funds for our housing programs by way of a live auction of elaborately decorated Christmas trees which go home with the highest bidder. Last year, it was held outside under the sparkling night sky, with Christmas carolers, exciting A/V experiences, a photo booth, and a spiral staircase lit by idyllic lanterns.

Have you ever sponsored an event, or are you interested in it? Let us know! We’d love to collaborate with you or your corporation.
